What is it

T he Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging standard that empowers communication between electronic devices and sensors through the internet in order to facilitate our lives. It uses smart devices, multiple technologies and internet to provide advanced solutions to numerous challenges and problems related to various business, public/private industries across the world.

Industrial Internet of Things is used across several industries, such as manufacturing, oil and gas, logistics, transportation, mining and metals, energy/utilities, aviation and other industrial sectors.

The Internet of Things is not a concept; it is a network, the true technology-enabled Network of all networks.
– Edewede Oriwoh

Similar to Internet of Things in general, the Industrial IoT covers many use cases, applications and industries. It started with a focused on optimizing operational efficiency and automation/maintenance, however now it’s impacting a lot on intelligent manufacturing and smart industry, asset performance management and industrial control. There is a high demand for this service model leading to new ways of servicing customers and creating the more mature goal of industrial digital transformation. It helps in Improving operational efficiency, productivity, creating new business opportunities, reducing downtime and maximizing asset utilization

How its made

Industrial IoT is a network of smart devices connected to form systems that can monitor, collect, exchange and analyze data.

The ecosystem consists of connected devices that can sense, communicate and store information about themselves, data communications infrastructure, analytics and applications that generate business information from raw data, warehouse to store the data that is generated from the IoT devices.

The industry may require PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) to continuously monitors the state of input devices and makes decisions based upon a custom logic to control the state of output devices, Kepware or any other OPC (Open Platform Communications) server for communication and a data warehouse to store all the history data. A data visualization tool may also be required to easily monitor/ visualize data and speed up the decision making process.
